Julie Harris, MNSc, APRN, PMHNP
Julie is a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner at Alleviant’s Little Rock location. She holds a Master of Nursing Science in Psychiatric Mental Health from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and bachelor’s degrees in nursing and criminal justice from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
Known as enthusiastic, empowering, and supportive, Julie was led to a career in mental health having witnessed the impact of mental health disorders within her family.
“Becoming a mental health provider holds a personal significance for me,” she said. “My community doesn’t really embrace mental health. I felt like I could make things more comfortable and help people to get better.
“I am driven to study the detailed aspects of these conditions. Becoming a provider allows me to make a meaningful difference in clients’ lives by assisting them in managing and overcoming their challenges. It’s gratifying to witness patients experience positive outcomes. I find fulfillment in contributing, even in small ways, to their journey toward wellness and peace of mind,” she continued. “I enjoy getting to know each client and working together as a team to find the best treatment options. I truly love what I do.”
Over her career, she has worked with patients with mental health and substance use disorders in acute and residential settings. She also has a background in medical and neurosurgery intensive care nursing.
Julie said Alleviant’s holistic approach to mental health care makes it different.
“We have innovative treatments such as Personalized repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (PrTMS), Spravato, and ketamine therapy to minimize medication dependence,” she said. “Our providers manage medications and offer psychotherapy.”
A native of Pine Bluff, Julie moved to Little Rock to attend college and pursue her career in nursing.
Away from work, she enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and her dog, Appa, who loves cuddles and playing tug-of-war, as well as going to the movies, and taking walks in nature.
