Dr. Nicole Muller is a licensed psychological assistant who is excited to be joining the team at Alleviant Health Centers. She is enthusiastic about the innovative treatments offered, as well as the collaborative, integrative approach to wellness.
She received her B.A. in Psychology from the University of California, Santa Cruz. She went on to earn both her Ph.D. and M.A. in Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University in San Diego.
Dr. Muller is driven by helping others. She has worked in a variety of clinical settings such as an integrative health center, a psychiatric hospital, a methadone clinic, and a private practice. She has experience treating trauma, addictive disorders, and chronic pain.
“There is considerable evidence to suggest that addictive and chronic pain disorders are born out of initial trauma. I firmly believe that recovery from pain or addiction must start with recovery from trauma.”
Dr. Muller is a Certified Trauma Professional (CTP). She is especially interested in the intersection of trauma, addiction, and pain. She has undergone training to deliver evidence-based treatments for PTSD, including EMDR. She takes an integrative approach with an emphasis on mindfulness, cognitive-behavioral therapies, and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). She believes that there is no single approach that will work for everyone, so it is important to take time to meet clients where they are.
Dr. Muller also works with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, and personality disorders. She believes in the “whole person” approach to treatment and often incorporates nutrition and exercise into the therapy session. Her commitment to the mind-body approach to treatment guides her work.
Dr. Muller is originally from the San Francisco Bay Area. She has lived in San Diego for more than ten years and enjoys spending time with her family, including her small black pug. She also enjoys hiking trails around San Diego County, reading, and listening to music. She can often be found camping with her family on the weekends.
