Thomas Cook, MD
Dr. Cook is a board-certified psychiatrist and is originally from Naples, Florida. He is a graduate of the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University in Chicago.
He has run a private mental health practice for many years near the University of Hawaii, where, in addition to prescribing standard psychiatric medication, he has specialized in alternative treatments for mental health problems.
He aims to empower his patients, as often as possible, to live independently from taking pills on a daily basis For example, he may provide information on sources of dietary lithium (e.g. seaweed) for patients who are irritable, or how to take mackerel fish oil for attention deficit. He may provide guidance on the use of medical cannabis for the treatment of insomnia and chronic stress, as sleeping pills are now unfortunately known to increase one’s risk of dementia.
At the Alleviant Health Center of Honolulu, Dr. Cook aims to expand his mission to provide treatments that are more rapid, safe, and effective than standard medications. Magnetic brain stimulation, or TMS, is a safe way to treat depression without taking medication, and is often fully covered by insurance plans. Ketamine infusions are an effective way to treat severe depression more rapidly and more effectively than what can be achieved with any antidepressant. It is also effective at treating conditions that often respond poorly to standard treatment, such as OCD, migraines, neuropathies, fibromyalgia, and a variety of other conditions.
