Avoidant Personality Disorder (AvPD)

Overcome Fear. Build Connection. Thrive with Confidence.

What Is Avoidant Personality Disorder?

Avoidant Personality Disorder (AvPD) is a mental health condition marked by intense feelings of social inhibition, fear of rejection, and deep sensitivity to criticism. People with AvPD often want close relationships but avoid social situations due to overwhelming anxiety and fear of being judged or embarrassed.

At Alleviant Integrated Mental Health, we recognize how isolating and frustrating AvPD can feel. Our personalized, neuroscience-guided approach helps reduce anxiety, improve social confidence, and support healthier relationships.

Signs and Symptoms of Avoidant Personality Disorder

Common features include:

  • Intense fear of criticism, disapproval, or rejection

  • Avoidance of social or occupational activities involving interpersonal contact

  • Feelings of inadequacy or low self-esteem

  • Reluctance to try new activities due to fear of embarrassment

  • Desire for connection but withdrawal due to fear of judgment

  • Sensitivity to negative feedback and rejection

  • Difficulty trusting others or opening up

Though challenging, AvPD is treatable with the right support and tools.

Our Integrative Approach to AvPD Treatment

Using our Objective Psychiatry model, we assess brain function and design treatments that address both neurological anxiety patterns and emotional regulation.

Your individualized care plan may include:

Comprehensive Psychiatry (In-Person or Telehealth)

Our psychiatry services provide thoughtful evaluation and personalized treatment to support emotional stability, improve daily functioning, and promote long-term mental wellness.

Medication Management

Medications such as SSRIs or anxiolytics may help reduce anxiety and improve mood. Pharmacogenetic testing ensures medication choices suit your biology and minimize side effects.

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)

Personalized brain stimulation targets neural circuits involved in anxiety and social fear, potentially reducing symptoms and increasing emotional resilience.

Therapy (In-Person or Telehealth)

We provide Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and social skills training to build confidence, challenge negative thoughts, and improve interpersonal connection.

Spectral EEG (sEEG)

A painless, non-invasive scan that identifies brainwave dysregulation triggered by trauma, guiding treatment with real-time data.

Health Coaching (Telehealth)

Sleep, nutrition, and stress management play a vital role in anxiety regulation. Our coaches help create sustainable habits that support mental wellness.
