PTSD

Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) a psychological reaction occurring after experiencing a highly stressful event (such as wartime combat, physical violence, or a natural disaster) that is usually characterized by depression, anxiety, flashbacks, recurrent nightmares, and avoidance of reminders of the event.

Although PTSD is typically associated with soldiers who have suffered trauma on the battlefield, it is also commonly seen in civilians who have experienced sexual assault, life-threatening events or disasters, childhood trauma, injury, disease, or suddenly losing a loved one.

How We Help

At Alleviant Health Centers, we focus on finding and healing the root of your PTSD and creating a path of healing. We customize your plan of care to you and your unique situation. It may consist of a variety of tools, such as talk-therapy, medications, lifestyle coaching, ketamine therapy, or mindfulness training. We do everything possible to help you reach health and balance.

Traditionally, medical professionals have separated the mind from the body and treated them as two separate entities. Now, we are just beginning to understand the significant interplay of the mind, body, and spirit. The gut-brain connection is now a well-established determination of mental health. Over the past five years, there has been a significant shift from a stagnant, traditional, medication-based approach, to holistic, integrated psychiatry.

Holistic treatments focus on non-medication based healing solutions, such as lifestyle management, nutritional supplementation, mindfulness, and massage therapy. Integrated psychiatry, on the other hand, coordinates multiple medical specialties and nutritional science to improve illness.

In our therapy, we combine holistic and integrative medicine, which allows us to provide you with a unique treatment plan based upon your genetics, nutritional status, and biochemical assay. This approach addresses the fundamental source of your depression and restores your natural state of balance and peace.

Ketamine Infusion Therapy

Ketamine infusions stimulate the brain’s natural mechanisms to help rebuild and remodel the disrupted neural pathways in PTSD.  Coupled with psychotherapy, ketamine infusions can help those suffering from PTSD to make significant progress in healing from past traumatic events. Symptoms

The symptoms of PTSD may include the following:

  • Re-experiencing: flashbacks or unwanted / intrusive thoughts of the event

  • Avoidance: avoiding the places or feelings associated with the event

  • Arousal and reactivity: irritability / anger, exaggerated startled response, insomnia, irritability, recklessness in behaviors, concentration trouble, hypervigilance

  • Negative emotional symptoms: lack of enjoyment in activities, persistent fear / belief that further negative things will happen, depressed mood, inappropriate guilt, isolation from peers / loved ones, amnesia related to the event

These reactions are a natural response to trauma, but if the event is not dealt with properly these symptoms may become chronic, resulting in PTSD.
