Schizoaffective Disorder
Integrated Care for Complex Minds. Balance Is Possible.
What Is Schizoaffective Disorder?
Schizoaffective Disorder is a chronic mental health condition that includes features of both schizophrenia (such as hallucinations or delusions) and mood disorders (such as depression or bipolar symptoms). This blend of psychotic and mood-related symptoms makes schizoaffective disorder unique and often misunderstood.
At Alleviant Integrated Mental Health, we recognize that this condition doesn’t fit neatly into one category, and that successful treatment requires a personalized, multi-dimensional approach. Using neuroscience, psychiatry, therapy, and integrative care, we help stabilize mood, reduce psychosis, and support long-term functioning.
Symptoms of Schizoaffective Disorder
Schizoaffective disorder includes symptoms from both psychotic and mood categories:
Psychotic Symptoms
Hallucinations (seeing or hearing things that aren’t there)
Delusions (strong beliefs that aren’t based in reality)
Disorganized speech or behavior
Mood Symptoms
Depression: sadness, hopelessness, low energy, poor motivation
Mania or hypomania: elevated mood, irritability, racing thoughts, decreased need for sleep
Other Signs
Social withdrawal or isolation
Trouble focusing, thinking clearly, or maintaining work and daily routines
Impaired insight or fluctuating awareness of symptoms
There are two subtypes:
Bipolar Type – includes manic or mixed episodes, sometimes with depression
Depressive Type – includes major depressive episodes only
Our Integrative, Brain-Based Treatment Approach
At Alleviant, we use our Objective Psychiatry model to bring together neuroscience, medication, therapy, and lifestyle interventions by treating both the mood and psychotic components of schizoaffective disorder with precision and compassion.
Your personalized treatment plan may include:
Comprehensive Psychiatry (In-Person or Telehealth)
Our psychiatry services provide thoughtful evaluation and personalized treatment to support emotional stability, improve daily functioning, and promote long-term mental wellness.
Medication Management
We carefully tailor medications such as antipsychotics, mood stabilizers, and antidepressants, based on symptoms and response. Our team also offers pharmacogenetic testing to identify how your body may metabolize medications and reduce side effects.
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)
This personalized brain stimulation therapy helps normalize disrupted brainwave activity. PrTMS® may support improvements in depressive symptoms, mood regulation, and cognitive function, even in treatment-resistant cases.
Therapy (In-Person or Telehealth)
Therapy provides tools to navigate emotional triggers, psychotic symptoms, and life stressors. We use CBT, supportive psychotherapy, and skills-building techniques depending on the patient’s needs and recovery stage.
Spectral EEG (sEEG)
Our non-invasive brain scan detects abnormal brainwave activity linked to mood instability, thought dysregulation, and cognitive difficulties. It helps guide treatment decisions based on your unique brain function.
Health Coaching (Telehealth)
Chronic inflammation, nutritional imbalances, poor sleep, and stress can worsen symptoms. Our integrative health coaches help address physical contributors to mental instability and support whole-person healing.
