Alex Otey, LCSW
Alex is a therapist at Alleviant’s Little Rock location. She holds a master’s degree in social work and a bachelor’s degree in psychology, both from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. She sees patients aged five and older.
Growing up, Alex thought she wanted to be a doctor, but after taking an advanced placement psychology class at Parkview High School, she knew she wanted to go into the mental health field.
“From a young age, I knew I wanted to help others,” she said. “I fell in love with psychology in high school, which led me to pursue psychology in college, as well. After graduation, I became intrigued by the field of social work and recognized the importance it plays in our society. I love that it allows me to work with people in all stages of life on different levels. I also recognize the importance and benefit of the therapeutic relationship and how healing it can be.
“To me, it is humbling to know that I had even a small part in their improvement. It’s exciting to see when things start to really ‘click’ for someone, and they begin to do the work.”
Alex started her career at The Centers in 2017, with a brief time doing school-based therapy in St. Louis. In 2021, she returned to The Centers in 2021 before moving to Alleviant in 2024. “I believe the holistic approach Alleviant has toward mental health and wellness makes the organization stand out amongst other agencies.”
Known as calm, welcoming, and easy going, Alex grew up in Little Rock. She has been married to her husband since 2019, and the couple has a beautiful three-year-old daughter.
Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, watching her favorite comfort shows, and organizing.
